Developing location and speed-based services for a global vehicle manufacturer’s new line of electric vehicles Off-the-shelf EV location and speed-based services for global OEM A global car maker aimed to create location and speed-based services for their new electric vehicles but faced a short deadline. They sought to avoid heavy software development for in-vehicle and backend components. Our product, Position & Journey, addressed this challenge by enabling the development of a single service that generated two types of messages, covering all required use cases in one go, significantly reducing development time and costs. The Challenge A global vehicle manufacturer wanted to develop a suite of location and speed-based services for their new generation of electric vehicles, such as Journey Log, Trip Statistics, Remote Vehicle Tracking, Car Finder, Geofence, Speed Alert, Curfew Alert, and Valet Alert. The timeline to develop such services was quite short to make a relevant business case. In their earlier platform, the customer had many different independent services to manage for each use case. If they followed the same solution for their new platform, they would need to invest heavily in software development both for in-vehicle components and backend components to meet the deadline. As a result, they were looking for an alternative solution that could reduce their development times and shorten time to market. The Solution Technical overview of the deployed solution Our product, Position & Journey, offered a unique possibility for the customer to overcome their challenge. By developing just one service that generated two types of messages, the vehicle manufacturer could provide all the required use cases in one go. This was quite an improvement from the previous platform, where each use case required a separate service in the vehicle.
